Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Review PS3

rainbow six vegas 2

The Rainbow Six series have been around since the late 1990s throughout a range of console systems, portable systems, and the PC. Most of the games have been stellar, but there have been some duds such as Lockdown. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is a direct sequel and partial prequel to the events of its predecessor Rainbow Six Vegas. The game has various multiplayer modes and a single player campaign. The player also has a lot of customization options this time around as well.

Graphic and sound:

The graphics in Rainbow Six Vegas 2 are almost identical to the previous iteration with no changes in the game engine used. Everything from character models to environments look realistic and behave naturally. Sound effects and voiceovers are on par with other titles in the series.

Gameplay and controls:

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 has a single player campaign that can be played in co-op mode with one other player or solo. The multiplayer modes available are: Item Extraction, Hostage Rescue, Demolition, Team Deathmatch, Deathmatch, Total Conquest, Team Leader, and Co-op Terrorist Hunt. Item Extraction involves having one team locate and retrieve intel while the other team attempts to stop them. Hostage Rescue consists of one team extracting hostages to a safe zone while the other team prevents them from doing so. Demolition involves having one team planting a bomb while preventing the opposing team from defusing it before detonation. Deathmatch is a free for all mode in which player compete with each other for most kills. Team Deathmatch is identical to Deathmatch except that players compete in teams instead of individually. Total Conquest consists of teams capturing satellite transmitters and holding them for 30 seconds. Team Leader is a mode in which teams have a leader selected within their team that must be protected from the opposing team. Co-op Terrorist Hunt is a co-op mode in which four players cooperate to eliminate all terrorists on a level. Controls in the game are very easy to use and the game walks the player through most of the equipment and control buttons used to navigate through the game. Multiplayer in RSV2 is very fun, especially the co-op modes where players are forced to work together as a true team against the CPU AI.

Overall thoughts:

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is a positive improvement over its predecessor. It allows for gaining XP for character customization from both the multiplayer modes and the single player campaign. Also, the player can use voice commands to control their squad and direct them into the battlefield. I highly recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of squad based tactical shooters or fans of previous Rainbow Six or other Tom Clancy tactical shooters.
